Vice President Product Development

Details of role:
The Position
The Vice President Development will report directly to the CEO and will have full responsibility to achieve organizational and product development objectives agreed-upon with the CEO.
In the initial 12 months of his/her mandate, the VP Development will be expected to focus on the following points:
Objectives 3 months:
• Business/Product Strategy
o As part of the executive management team this role will contribute to the business plans, go-to-market strategies and product roadmaps that take into account existing products, market opportunities and competitive trends, development plans, investment and acquisition programs;
• Product Development and Customer Support
o Review the product development and support organization and recruit the required management resources.
o Working together with the corporate Strategy Advisory Board and Sales/Marketing, define a clear product development plan including action & funding plan to be approved by the CEO.

Objectives 6 months:
• Have all key product development management positions in place
• Have a clear 24 months product plan approved by the CEO.
• Have all development projects onto a 12-18 month product development cycle.

Objectives 12 months:
• measurable objectives (KPIs) for product development
o Meeting the targeted market requirements
o Delivered on time
o Delivered on spec
o Delivered on budget
• A product development organization culture based on empowerment, metrics and results.

The Person:
The Vice President Development must have exhibited the talent to manage a 30-100 person enterprise software product development team. He/she will have knowledge / experience in:
• The IBM ZOS Operating System and development tools
• C++
• Java
• Open Systems, including Windows, Unix, Linux
• Major relational DBMS systems
• W4 Workflow Engine
• Google search technology
• Simulations, testing and product quality tools
In addition, the ideal candidate will be a leader and will have a proven track record in establishing an empowerment-based culture and in attracting world-class software development talent.
The successful candidate will have a strong professional presence and credibility within the software industry.
He/She will have a passion for the global enterprise account software market.

Skills and Qualifications:
Languages.
• Outstanding English written, verbal and presentation skills are mandatory.
• Working knowledge of French is mandatory.

Industry Experience.
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of software industry experience in enterprise software product development.
Technical Competency.
This senior executive needs a strong background in the management of the development of software products rather than as a software applications or technology visionary.
• Breadth of understanding of the whole enterprise software landscape is as important as a narrow technical knowledge of enterprise content management software applications.
Strategic Product Management Abilities.
• The person needs to drive the continuing evolution of the product development together with its communication inside and outside the company.
• This requires an individual with a high level of enterprise software product and technology awareness and ability to formulate and communicate competitive product development plans addressing corporate market objectives.
Horizontal Leadership Skills.
• The VP Development must be able to establish rapport, value and respect within a complex environment. He/she must sell ideas and influence directly and indirectly.
• Ideal personal characteristics include: challenging colleagues constructively; stimulating the thinking of others; team oriented and a decision-maker; initiating and leading change; and knowing how and when to teach.
